Aesthetic Anti-aging: looking forward

Anti-Aging

Unlike other branches of medicine, the field of Aesthetics has always been dynamic. Innovations in products, injection techniques, energy-based devices and other nuanced treatments have kept the field relevant and interesting for the past five decades. Long gone are the days of silicon and other permanent fillers which have rightfully been replaced by hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers.
Further advances in the field have made it easier than ever to combat the signs of aging. A clear example of this is the emergence of bio stimulating dermal fillers within the market. These products work by helping the body produce collagen, which increases plumpness and restores firmness in the skin. Upon treatment with a bio stimulating dermal filler, patients will see an immediate improvement as the gel fills in wrinkles and adds volume. However, optimal results take a few weeks to appear, as the stimulation of the production of collagen is not immediate
The argument boils down to quicker versus longer results. For HA Fillers, immediate results can be seen after a single session which disappears in a few months. As for bio stimulators, consistent long-term results that improve over time and stay for 2 to 3 years are noted with 2 to 3 sessions of treatment spaced roughly a month apart.
Both bio-stimulating fillers and hyaluronic acid fillers are minimally invasive and require no recovery time post-treatment, which is a huge advantage over surgical procedures. The Collagen stimulating fillers does have its drawbacks as well. The lack of Hyaluronic acid in the product means removal is not an option and chances of nodule formation also needs to be kept in mind.
There are several advantages and disadvantages to using a bio stimulating dermal filler instead of a hyaluronic acid filler, and the choice of which to use will depend on the condition of the patient’s skin and their desired results of treatment.

Bio stimulating dermal fillers can add much more volume than hyaluronic acid fillers and are perfect for treating large areas that are undergoing atrophy. They can smooth out the skin by filling in deep lines and static wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid fillers are more suitable for moderate volume restoration and filling in fine-to-moderate lines and wrinkles.
Another honorable mention goes to collagen stimulating threads. This has the added advantage of producing a gentle lift along with producing controlled added volume over a period of 6 to 8 weeks. Along with Bio Stimulators and threads, highly sophisticated energy-based devices are being introduced into the market which holds a lot of promise in minimally invasive volume restoration and anti-aging.
The past decade has seen a more divided consensus with Hyaluronic acid fillers on one side and bespoke collagen stimulating treatments on the other. Some Practitioners have successfully integrated both into the practice. Giving patients a more comprehensive solution to their aesthetic and anti-aging needs.
