Driving a sustainable fashion revolution: Junk Kouture showcases its life-changing anti waste youth challenge at the World Conference on Creative Economy at Dubai Exhibition Centre Expo 2020

Junk Kouture

Junk Kouture, the world’s largest sustainable youth fashion programme, is delighted to be exhibiting at the second edition of the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE). Taking place at Dubai Exhibition Centre Expo 2020 from Tuesday, December 7 to Thursday, December 9, Junk Kouture and WCCE will come together through the arts to elevate the importance of promoting young people within the creative economy.
Junk Kouture is a trail blazing school challenge that tasks young people with making amazing fashion designs out of recyclable materials and items that are often dismissed as ‘junk’. Exhibiting throughout all three days of the progressive industry fair at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Junk Kouture will present a series of immersive and creative activations.
Junk Kouture participants from four local schools will bring along their eco-friendly designs to an inspiring Junk Kouture workshop, while Khairunisa Suhail, Head of Design at The Giving Movement will present a fun and engaging tote bag upcycling session. Taking place on Wednesday, December 8, the student workshops will run from 10.30am to 12pm, 1pm to 2.30pm and 3pm to 4.30pm. Throughout the day, attendees to the WCCE can also have a go at crafting their own striking and imaginative accessories.
Troy Armour, CEO of Junk Kouture and Katie Brill, Junk Kouture Past Participant and VP of PR and Comms, will also deliver an exclusive talk on Enabling Creative Youth Expression Through Environmental Sustainability. Taking place at 2pm on December 8, the presentation will also feature an inspiring and mesmerising fashion show, featuring some of the competition’s most amazing Junk Kouture designs modelled by local school students.

Troy Armour, CEO of Junk Kouture, said: “I’m so excited to present our students’ amazing designs to international business leaders at the WCCE. We are shaping the future innovators of tomorrow, and to have their creations presented on such an important global stage is an incredible opportunity. Junk Kouture is already engaging with dozens of schools across the UAE and thousands across the globe. Events like the WCCE at Expo 2020 Dubai will help us to impact more lives and encourage more action to protect our planet. I would like to encourage everyone to pass by and visit us at our stand in the CreatiVillage from December 7 to 9.”
Launched in 2018, the WCCE is a global gathering of entrepreneurs, creatives, policymakers and world-leading speakers. Dedicated to showcasing the industry’s latest innovations and technologies, it invites business leaders from across the globe to share knowledge, analyse trends and debate ideas about how we can create a more sustainable creative economy.
Meanwhile, the Junk Kouture World Tour, which arrived in the UAE earlier this year, is providing vital education about climate change and sustainability. Through challenging students to make fashion out of recyclable materials and tapping into the rich cultural heritage of the UAE, the programme promotes creative expression amongst young people, whilst also tackling environmental issues. The creative journey sees students design, create and model wearable couture, and compete to secure a place in the Junk Kouture World Final in September 2022.
