1. Dr. Amiri, what inspired you to become a dentist, and how has your journey been in promoting oral hygiene in Dubai?
My family, especially my mother, has always been a source of inspiration for me, as it is for many others. As a member of a medical team, she always told me the stories of her endeavors to save people’s lives. Inspired by the whole idea, I made up my mind to become a physician. This was, however, against my desire to be an artist. To have both in mind, I turned to dentistry, where I could combine science and art: medical treatment and photography. Dentistry has paved the way to achieve my humanistic and artistic goals: designing and developing esthetics along with the technical aspects of treatment.

I am in Dubai with two objectives in mind. First, I have an immediate goal to develop trust and meet the medical demands of the Iranians residing in Dubai. The main goal is to help fellow Iranians avoid the expensive trip back to Iran for dental treatment. Second, the long-term goal is to establish a newly-coined concept known as ‘medical tourism ‘. The primary goal is to attract international individuals in two categories: rest and treatment for non-technical tourists as well as rest and training for technical tourists.

2. Can you share some valuable insights on the long-term benefits of maintaining good oral hygiene for overall health and well-being?
Oral hygiene can be of great importance in three areas:
‘Health is wealth’ they say. The oral cavity is where eating begins; chewing calls for healthy teeth and may either guarantee or deteriorate overall health.
Oral hygiene can boost physical appearance as it can enhance how much someone weighs and how desirably they look.
A beautiful smile is the key to making the best first impressions, while mouth odor can simply stab effective communication in the heart.

3. Many dentists have unique approaches to patient care. What sets your dental practice apart, and how do you ensure a personalized experience for each patient?
Our clinical practice relies on the concept of individualization and is managed to be done by a clear-cut process:
It begins with effective listening; patients’ voice is heard both actively and expansively. This is a discovery approach to elicit their chief complaint.
Then comes the planning phase with regard to patients’ needs.
While implanting the stages of an air-tight plan, we assess every single one to make sure things are running smoothly.

4. Could you highlight some of the advanced technologies or techniques you employ in your dental practice to provide the best possible care to your patients?
It has been almost five years since we introduced digital technologies to dental treatment. Cutting-edge technologies like ‘same-day implant’ have enabled us to respond to patient’s concerns in terms of the pain and the length of treatment. More importantly, clinicians have benefited from digital technologies: the patients’ individual information is coded as computerized input which is processed to develop a 3D model of the final product of the proposed treatment plan. The patients, then, can decide if what they have been offered is going to meet their expectations or not. Just imagine a patient with almost no time for dental treatment is provided with a fully detailed image of their smile recovery. This guarantees the quality and precision.

5. Dental anxiety is a common concern for many people. How does your clinic create a comfortable and reassuring environment for patients who may be anxious about dental visits?
We do our utmost to establish a good rapport with our clients. A meeting is scheduled before any medical action is taken. The clients are warmly welcomed and receive a blow-by-blow consultation regarding their complaints and the treatment proposal. At the end of the meeting. Each patient is given a roadmap with an A to Z plan.
To address the anxiety triggered by pain, we inform the patients about the pain-reducing strategies, yet if we find them anxiety-prone, we will introduce the techniques of sedation (receiving treatment while in a state of calm or asleep) or general anesthesia under very specific conditions.

6. In today’s digital age, people often seek information online. How do you engage with your patients and the community to educate them about oral health and hygiene through digital platforms?
There are two informative strategies: first, we provide the required training to our patients through follow-up protocols both online and in person. This is in fact a more personalized approach we have taken to serve our patients and meet their satisfaction. Second, we publicly share valuable information on how to maintain oral hygiene both on our website (FQ section) and social media via the images and videos shared on the topic encompassing information on various aspects of dental wellness.

7. Lastly, what advice or tips would you offer to individuals looking to improve their oral hygiene habits and maintain a healthy smile?
I would give one little piece of advice. To feel how valuable you are, to love yourself to your ultimate, and to respect yourself, find your trustable dentist who can give you the most reliable lessons regarding the general concerns about dental care and oral hygiene. This would be a one-in-a-lifetime worthwhile experience that will stay with you forever.
