DRESS FOR SUCCESS Top tips on how to dress for success

Dress

Being successful is many things, but dressing for that success is something else. We are all familiar with the term “don’t judge a book by its cover”, however, people make their judgment about you in the first seven seconds they lay their eyes on you. Whether it be a job interview, a networking event or even a business meeting, your first impression is what gives you that success.

Opportunities can be missed if you’re not looking like a million dollars, walking up to a networking event in a tracksuit, people with great potential are overlooked growth opportunities because they aren’t dressed well. For example, the legendary Coco Chanel once used to say “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; Dress impeccably and they remember the woman”. If you want to be remembered and seen as successfully competent then dress the part.

However, dressing for success doesn’t always mean wearing a brand, or your attire needs to be a 1000$ for you to be seen. The way you present yourself, the confidence you wear and the way you carry yourself is what seals the deal. Keep the following tips in mind and you’re already on your way to success.

  • Get your basics right

Always coordinate your outfits, match your belts and match your accessories. People often forget these two basic things when it comes to dressing up. Your socks need to match your outfit if you’re wearing shoes, if you’re in heels contrast it right.

  • Hygiene is important!
Mouthwash! Mouthwash! Mouthwash! Nobody likes a stinky breath when you speak. Had a long day? No time to brush, always keep a gum to clean out that shawarma you ate an hour ago. Clean manicure, good scented cologne but not too much, perfume is meant to compliment not overwhelm.

  • Simplicity is elegance

Always keep your accessories limited, minimalism is key. It should be just right for your outfit and not overwhelm it, because remember that would also overwhelm your personality.

  • Keep it clean
Always keep your outfit clean and pressed. If anyone notices that crush, you’re immediately judged as a shabby lazy person. Who wants to sign a deal with that guy? Wear outfits that are tailored to your body, baggy clothes in a professional environment is a no no.

  • Dress for the occasion
Always see the occasion and dress. If it calls for a black tie on the invitation, wear a tuxedo not a navy suit. Going to a dinner party, wear a simple midi dress and accessorize. If it’s a casual brunch, wear your jeans but always wear a jacket, it’s best to look the best dressed person in the room.

  • And Dress well!

Dressing well is not always about the clothes, it’s also about how you carry yourself and the confidence you wear it with. So hold your head high, in your amazing outfit and you’ll see people walk up to you.
